6 Important things to do when moving into a new home

moving home

Moving into your new home can be nerve-wracking, exhausting, and downright overwhelming — there’s so much to do in a day or two, after all.

To quickly solve this problem, make a list of things you need to do as you move into your new house, especially if you bought Winthrop real estate in Okanogan County, WA. This way, you organize your tasks and make it much easier to accomplish all of them.

Here are some other ways to lighten the burden from your move:

Do a final walkthrough

Visit the new property before your actual move and make a final walkthrough. This way, you can familiarize yourself with the house’s layout and know the location of household fixtures like the circuit breaker, fuse box, main water valve, and smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. The final walkthrough also allows you to add safety precautions for children and pets days before your move.

Deep clean the new house

Once the keys to your new home are in your possession, set a date for deep cleaning the new house at least one week before you move in. So, when Moving Day comes up, you can concentrate on the move itself and not moving and cleaning up at the same time.

Transfer utilities

Contact the community’s power and water providers one week before your move so that by the time you move in, your new house will have electricity, gas, and running water.

Make sure to also inform your internet service provider and phone carrier of your impending move. See if it’s possible to transfer these services to your new home and, if it is, then attend to the necessary arrangements.

Declutter

Moving is not the time to be sentimental. At least one week before your move, try to take stock of everything you currently have — books, clothes, toys, decor, furniture, and gadgets — and decide which ones to keep and which ones to donate to charity shops or sell on the secondhand market.

Pack your things properly

When packing your belongings, make sure that you sort everything properly. This means labeling all boxes with the appropriate room where they’re supposed to be placed and adding a description of what’s inside them.

Secure your home

After all your things have been transferred to your new home and all utilities have been connected, you can then shop around for new locks and doorknobs for all doors leading to the outside of the property. This will ensure that only you and your family will be the only persons with access to your new home.

Other things to do once you have finished setting up your new home is to check local community pages for information about schools and healthcare providers in the neighborhood. This is especially helpful if you are new to the area.
